All-105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of the Pitt 2024 training camp roster.

Matthew Amofa, redshirt sophomore cornerback from Hillsborough in Hillsborough, N.J.

2023 season: Amofa did not play in any games last season

Stats: Amofa did not record any stats last season

Camp outlook: Amofa will work with the cornerbacks as he’s done over the last two fall camps, and as he enters his third season with the Panthers, he knows the defense well by now

Projected role: I wouldn’t expect Amofa to have much of a role in the coming season, not with a glut of scholarship cornerbacks on the roster ahead of him, but with his experience with the system, he should work well in drills

Amofa (5-foot-10, 180 pounds) initially committed to Pitt as a preferred walk-on out of Hillsborough in New Jersey in 2022, arriving for the 2022 season. He hasn’t taken any in-game snaps since arriving.

Despite a strong senior campaign, Amofa wasn’t highly recruited out of high school. He recorded 18 tackles (17 solo), an interception and defended 10 passes as a senior, helping to lead Hillsborough to a 13-0 season and NJSIAA South Group V championship — including two passes defended and an interception.

It’s hard to stand out as a walk-on, especially at a position like cornerback, but Amofa brings that experience in the system and hard work on the practice field.
