All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each of the 105 members of the Pitt 2024 training camp roster.

Ty Dieffenbach, a redshirt freshman quarterback from Agoura in Calabasas, Cal.

2023 season: Dieffenbach redshirted last season and did not play in any games

Stats: Dieffenbach did not record any stats last season

Camp outlook: Dieffenbach will receive some reps with the 1s in camp, but he will work primarily with the 2s and 3s

Projected role: It’s unlikely that Dieffenbach will see too much action in 2024, but as the new No. 3 on the depth chart, he will be ready in the event that he’s called upon. The Panthers did use three quarterbacks in 2023

Ty Dieffenbach (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) was a late commitment in the class of 2023, flipping from UNLV to Pitt after the Panthers showed interest in the buildup to National Signing Day in 2022.

He didn’t see any action as a true freshman last season, redshirting and not seeing the field, but an offseason injury stunted his initial growth. He’s healthy, competing as the No. 3 quarterback and has more to offer as he continues to progress in the system.

“Ty’s a guy who’s still a pup,” Kade Bell said in March. “He got hurt last year, he broke his collarbone the first week of camp. I think it really hurt him as a true freshman. He didn’t get really any of the reps all of fall, so he’s basically like a true freshman again. So, he’s a guy who’s getting back used to the college speed, really get back to throw the ball how he needs to throw it with the injury he had to his shoulder, so we’re just trying to develop him and speed up the process because he has a lot of ability.

“And Ty’s a lot better of an athlete than people think. I’m just trying to get him to understand that, hey, you’re a really good athlete. Use it. You don’t have to stay in the pocket. Get out of the pocket, make plays and understand that you can use your athletic ability.”
