Player Profile: Sean Kuraly

Sean Kuraly was born on January 20, 1993, in Dublin, Ohio. The left-shot forward played for the Ohio Blue Jackets from 2008-10 and registered 37 goals and 61 assists in 86 total games before joining the United States National Development Program, where he played four games for the U17 team. The Indiana Ice drafted Kuraly in the fifth round of the 2009 United States Hockey League draft with the 60th overall selection.

During the 2011-12 season, Kuraly was a second-team All-Star in the USHL. That season, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward scored 32 goals and tallied 38 assists in 54 games. In the postseason, Kuraly collected three goals and three assists in six games. Kuraly spent four seasons at the University of Miami-Ohio and registered 93 total points in 154 total collegiate contests. The winger was a captain on the 2015-16 te am and was voted Best Defensive Forward in the conference.

The Sharks made Kuraly their fifth-round selection, 133rd overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft, but Kuraly never signed with them while opting to complete his four-year career at Miami-Ohio. Kuraly was traded to the Boston Bruins on June 30, 2015, with a first-round draft pick for goalie Martin Jones. The forward signed a two-year, entry-level contract with Boston worth $1.85 million.

Sean Kuraly’s NHL Debut to Today

Sean Kuraly made his NHL debut on November 3, 2016, against the Tampa Bay Lightning, playing 7:07 of ice time. Kuraly scored his first two NHL goals in Game 5 of the first round of the 2017 NHL Playoffs against the Ottawa Senators. Kuraly played four full seasons with the Bruins from 2016-2021 and registered 24 goals and 44 assists in 270 regular-season games and nine postseason goals, including four in the 2019 NHL playoffs. On July 28, 2021, Kuraly signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets for four years and $10 million. In four seasons with Columbus, three as an assistant captain, Kuraly scored 40 goals and contributed 45 assists in 292 games.

Sean Kuraly signed a two-year, $3.7 million contract to return to the Boston Bruins on July 1, 2025.
