Players Championship 25: Bunting leads the way as huge averages light up Pro Tour
James Patrick/PDC

Stephen Bunting didn’t just walk away with the Players Championship 25 title on the latest round of Pro Tour action – he also set the standard on the averages table with the day’s highest mark.

The 40-year-old Englishman produced a stunning 111.66 in his last-64 win over Mario Vandenbogaerde, the best performance of the event, before going on to claim his second Players Championship crown of the year by beating Jonny Clayton 8–6 in the final.

Clayton, meanwhile, pushed Bunting all the way to the title and also featured prominently in the averages. The Ferret registered a 110.80 against Krzysztof Ratajski in the last 32 and added another ton-plus effort later in the day, underlining the high standard of his run.

Ireland’s William O’Connor completed the top three with a superb 109.61 in his last-16 victory over World Cup partner Keane Barry, before being edged out 7–6 by Bunting in the semi-finals.

One of the standout names among the averages was Dennie Olde Kalter. The Dutchman, who only secured his Tour Card earlier this year, posted the sixth-highest average of the day at 106.06, achieved in a 6–1 second-round win over Connor Scutt. Though he eventually fell 6–3 to Gian van Veen in the last 32, it marked one of the best displays of his PDC career to date.

Martin Schindler also had a strong day in the scoring stakes, notching three separate ton-plus averages to underline his consistency, while Joe Cullen, Rob Cross and Krzysztof Ratajski all featured on the list.
