The Minnesota Frost and Montréal Victoire faced off for the sixth time this season, the second in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday, Mar. 26. The Frost hoped to end a three-game losing streak, while the Victoire also looked to end a three-game skid of their own. Both teams had their full rosters, with the exception of the Victoire, which was without goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens, who was injured a couple of weeks prior in a game against the Boston Fleet.
The goaltending battle was between Maddie Rooney for the Frost and Elaine Chuli for the Victoire. The game started out in the Victoire’s favor, and although the Frost came close to tying the game, the Victoire pulled away in the end for the 4-1 victory.
The Victoire found the back of the net first as their captain, Marie-Philip Poulin, snuck one past Rooney. Laura Stacey assisted her to put their team up 1-0. There were some close calls throughout the rest of the period, but none of them went in, and the Victoire took the lead into the intermission.
The Victoire held the momentum when the second period started, Stacey scored 24 seconds in to give her team a 2-0 lead. Kristin O’Neill assisted her. The Frost battled back, and Kelly Pannek scored to get her team within one. She found the puck in the crease and pushed until it went in. Grace Zumwinkle and Brooke McQuigge assisted her to make it 2-1. The Victoire thought they extended their lead to 3-1 but the goal was overturned due to goaltender interference. It stayed 2-1 and the Victoire took their lead into the third.
The Victoire added to their lead when Poulin added her second of the night to put her team up 3-1 early in the third. Stacey assisted her for her third point of the evening. The Victoire scored again late in the period to take a three goal lead on a goal by Stacey, her second of the night for her fourth point of the game and her first goal on the power play. That was the final goal of the game and the Victoire took the win.
After being on the road for nearly a month, the Frost will remain at home for one more game on Sunday, Mar. 30, when they host the Toronto Sceptres. Following that game, they’ll have nearly a month off for the 2025 Women’s World Championship in České Budĕjovice, Czechia. The Victoire will head back home to host the New York Sirens on Tuesday, Apr. 1, before they also head to break.
