With No. 1 Ohio State set to take the field this Saturday against Washington, the college football world received devastating news.

On Friday morning, a student was found dead at Ohio Stadium. According to university spokesperson Ben Johnson, the student has been identified as 19-year-old William Meyers from Fairfield, Connecticut. Foul play isn't suspected at this time. There's also no ongoing threat on campus.

No cause of death has been released. In the meantime, Ohio State is offering counseling to students impacted by this tragedy.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Counseling and Consultation Services are available for students in need of support by calling 614-292-5766," Johnson wrote in an email to The Columbus Dispatch.

Ohio community devastated by this loss.

As you'd imagine, people on campus are heartbroken over this situation. Even those who don't attend Ohio State are saddened by this tragedy.

"So sad," one person said. "Sending prayers to the family."

"Keeping the family and friends of William Meyers in my thoughts," a second person wrote.

"RIP," a Facebook user commented.

In May 2024, a woman fell from Ohio Stadium during the university's spring commencement. That situation was investigated as an "apparent suicide."

We're keeping the Meyers family in our thoughts.
