On the latest Ensemble PSG Podcast, Robin Bairner, chief editor at Football Transfers, stated one name that Parisians might not be able to get this summer, but should be all over on when the January window approaches.
“I think maybe one to look at might be Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United,” Bairner said. “I think he’d be an interesting one to look at, just off the top of my head, because he’s clearly an immensely talented player, but he doesn’t really fit into Ruben Amorim’s system.
“Amorim wants players who are all about intensity, whereas there’s a feeling that Mainoo is lacking a little bit of mobility. I think he could potentially fit into a team like PSG where you’ve got that high tariff on technical ability and being able to play in possession.
Furthermore, Bairner believes that PSG can take advantage of landing a player like Mainoo who might be looking to play to put himself in position for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year.
“So I think he could be one potentially to look at because he’s another guy who’s going to want to be playing in the World Cup,” Bairner added. “And I think that’s going to have a big impact as well.
“You’re going to be looking at people who are wanting to play in the World Cup, want a stage to prove themselves on, to make sure they’re into their World Cup teams or you’re looking at players who are disgruntled at the moment and are really pushing to leave that fall into the category of an Alexander Isak, for example. But beyond that, it’s always difficult to tell with January because it’s so changeable.”
