It is rare to see a player excel at not just one sport, but two sports as Queen Creek (Ariz.) High School football and baseball star Tait Reynolds has shined in both and plans to make the jump to college.
After graduating high school in 2026, Reynolds was originally committed to playing for ASU baseball before he posted on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday that he had reopened his recruitment and de-committed from the Sun Devils.
“I want to thank ASU Baseball but I have decided to announce that I have de-committed,” Reynolds said.

According to MaxPreps, Reynolds is an outfielder/shortstop who stands at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds. There are no stats available from his sophomore year even though he was the player who got the game-winning hit for Queen Creek to win the 6A state baseball final over Sandra Day O’Connor.
As a freshman two seasons ago, he played 55 games with a .255 batting average, .336 OBP, 24 hits and 12 RBIs.
As for football, the high school junior is the No. 1 recruit from Arizona and the No. 27 quarterback nationally. 247Sports ranks him as a three-star recruit and has offers from Clemson, Arizona, Miami (Fla.), Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
For Queen Creek this past season, Reynolds totaled 1,808 passing yards and connected on 11 touchdowns in 11 games. He also rushed for 631 yards and 17 touchdowns.
When evaluating Reynolds in football, 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins thinks his build is already in good shape, but there are certain aspects of his game that can develop with time.
“Reynolds is a big, strong multi-sport athlete with some obvious upside to him,” Biggins said. “He’s not just a talented football player but one of the region’s top baseball prospects as well and committed early to Arizona State before backing off his pledge in late June. He has a strong 6-2, 210-pound frame and shows off a strong arm and the ability to get the ball down the field. He can run around and make plays with his legs and looks more like a fullback than a quarterback when he’s running zone read or gets loose in the secondary.
“He’s a tough kid who will stand in the pocket and take a shot to deliver the football and doesn’t shy away from contact as a runner although he’ll need to temper that some at the college level. He’s still raw in some areas as a pure passer and we would like to see him improve his accuracy as well as his TD/INT ratio. Right now, he throws a lot of fastballs and will need to improve on his ability to change speeds and throw with touch. He’s a gamer though and you love the physicality he plays with and the compete level. He’s still developing but the physical tools are there and it will be fun to see where his game is at in a few years.”
The news about Reynolds comes close to a week after ASU landed UTSA shortstop Matt King and Louisville pitcher Will Koger via the transfer portal on June 20.
Since he is talented in both football and baseball, it will be intriguing to watch how Reynolds’ recruitment process will progress with plenty of opportunities awaiting him in either sport.
