Quinn Ewers Drafted Round 7 by Miami Dolphins
- Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers (3) looks into the crowd after the 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinal game in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium on Friday, Jan. 10, 2024 in Arlington, Texas.

One of the burning questions of the 2025 NFL Draft has finally been answered. Quinn Ewers is headed to Miami. The Miami Dolphins have chosen the embattled QB who cut his teeth in Texas. After beginning his college career at Ohio State, Ewers transferred to Texas. His storied career with the Longhorns might give insight into how he’ll fit in with the Dolphins.

Miami Dolphins Draft Quinn Ewers with Pick No. 231

Ewers has been selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The former starting QB for the Texas Longhorns has broken through after some rough setbacks. Despite a harrowing injury last September, Ewers finished the season with some impressive stats. After recovering, Ewers led the Texas Longhorns to the College Football Playoffs final round against Ohio State. He notched a season-high 358 passing yards in his meeting against Georgia. His career stats in Texas include 9,128 career passing yards and 68 touchdowns, both third-most in Texas Longhorns history.

He elected to enter the 2025 NFL Draft rather than head to another school for his last year of eligibility. Once it became clear he was not an immediate pick, Ewers’s status’ as backup QB was solidified. As the rounds passed by, it was pretty severely confirmed. The Miami Dolphins have already got Tua Tagovailoa and backup Zach Wilson. The acquisition of Ewers points to shoring up that depth. It remains to be seen how much the Dolphins would utilize him right off the bat. This will, at the very least, give Ewers time to develop further.

Final Thoughts

Ewers is ready to go. He’s been ready since recovering from that UTSA game injury. He’s been ready since that CFP run early this year. The Miami Dolphins have clearly taken notice. That he was drafted in the 7th Round can hardly be held against him. Have we already forgotten Tom Brady, who was drafted in the 6th Round? We can’t write him off so early. Ewers will soon head to Florida to further his football career. At least he’ll be used to the hurricanes.
