The Las Vegas Raiders have until Tuesday to cut their roster down to 53 players in compliance with the NFL’s rules on roster size.
While there are more moves on the way, the Raiders have announced the first wave of roster cuts. These come in the form of either straight releases or placing players on waivers, depending on how many seasons they have spent in the NFL. Some of these players could return to the practice squad, while this is the end of the road for others.
The Raiders made four releases on Monday, with wide receivers Phillip Dorsett, Collin Johnson and Marquez Callaway all being cut. The team also released linebacker Jaylon Smith, putting his dream of a NFL comeback on hold for the time being.
The Raiders have placed an additional 14 players on waivers.
There is still approximately 20 more roster moves left before the Raiders have their 53-man roster locked down, so more moves like this will come within the next 24 hours.
