John Spytek has been extremely busy the last 72 hours, between starting roster cuts, trying to trade Jakobi Meyers, signing Amari Cooper, and trading for Kenny Pickett from the Cleveland Browns. Out of those three, only two of them have actually been completed, as he still needs to either give Meyers the contract he wants or trade him. Or, he can let the season ride out and see what happens.
If the Raiders were to go the trade route in terms of what’s next for Jakobi Meyers, there are so many teams that they should call, or that should call them. We’ve discussed a few already , like the New England Patriots, but there’s another one out there, too. If the Raiders want to keep their return strictly draft capital, they may want to call up the Minnesota Vikings, and, we have a proposal ready.
First, the Raiders are all about sending their players to places that will benefit the player, that is unless there is a deal on the table that they simply cannot pass on. They aren’t going to send someone with the stature of Meyers to a place that will ruin his career, at least not intentionally.
One place that would be both good for him and the Raiders in terms of what they would get back, has to be the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikings have been in the market for a player who can be a complementary wide receiver to Justin Jefferson while Jordan Addison is currently out. It's especially important with Jalen Nailor's injury situation currently unknown due to a mysterious hand injury. It would be a ballsy move for the Vikings, but they have reportedly been calling around about some big-name wide receivers, including Adam Thielen from the Carolina Panthers, and others. Meyers would fit the bill, but his current cap hit could be a hindrance to making a trade happen, along with the Vikings likely not willing to give Meyers an extension. However, he's a good player who could do a great job to maximize the Vikings' offense, especially with how they like to use their condensed sets. Projected trade: Vikings send a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick - Tyler Forness, A to Z Sports Minnesota
Let’s start with the fact that the Vikings’ offense, if J.J., McCarthy is what we think he will be, would be amazing with Meyers added to the team. And if the Raiders don’t really want to get anything back in return in terms of players, this may be one of the best compensation deals they get. Two picks for a player that is on an expiring contract, is pretty good.
And you can always package those two picks for an even better pick, because they already have their own seventh-pick. Now, they don’t have their own sixth-round pick in 2026, because they just traded it for Kenny Pickett. So, getting some of that back instead of losing him for nothing in the summer, would be ideal.
This is certainly a deal that the Raiders should at least look into.
