The 2025 NFL Draft is history. And now Malaki Starks plans on making some.
In a recent article by PFF, they outline who they think are the biggest steals from every round of the draft. For the first round, the first player they mention is Georgia safety Malaki Starks, who landed with the Baltimore Ravens drafted with the 27th overall pick.
"He has positional versatility that allows Kyle Hamilton to be a movable chess piece," PFF wrote. "Starks’ 85.6 run-defense grade was one of the best in the draft class, while his 8.1% missed tackle rate was one of the lowest in the class. Starks brings high-level football intelligence and great anticipation to make plays on the ball in coverage."
Starks described playing with a player like Hamilton as "a dream" in an interview after he was drafted, and it could also be a dream for the Ravens to have a secondary comprised of the two versatile safeties.
Indeed, the Ravens view the rookie as a budding star, and on Thursday closed the deal on his very first pro contract, a four-year agreement worth $16.6 million with a $8.7 million signing bonus.
The team's payoff? It could come quickly.
In his final season at Georgia, Starks finished with 77 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and three pass deflections. He was also able to show his ball-hawk skills by grabbing an interception, but he can also play solid coverage with those deflections.
In a rather stunning stat ...
The Ravens allowed the second-most passing yards in the NFL in 2024, so adding a versatile defensive back like Starks to go alongside Hamilton could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Said Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team on the 6-1, 200-pound safety: “It’ll shock no one if Starks becomes one of the league’s best safeties and should be an impact player immediately. ... The Ravens grab a big-time playmaker with a bunch of experience, and all they did was sit back and let the draft fall to them.”
