Recent Ohio State offer could be signaling some worry for the Buckeyes and the unfortunate reality of the recruiting world

The Ohio State Buckeyes got off to a fast start in the 2027 recruiting class when Huntington Beach (Calif.) High School quarterback Brady Edmunds committed to the team back in early December. One of the top signal callers in the class, Edmunds grew up a Buckeyes fan and seemingly was settled on a very early decision. The 6-5, 215-pound passer was a great potential addition, especially that early.

Over the weekend, something extremely interesting happened that could make Ohio State fans a bit unsettled. The staff extended an offer to fast rising Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb quarterback Teddy Jarrard. It’s a peculiar offer considering you already have your quarterback commit in the class, and it could be signaling some unrest with that Edmund’s’ decision.

Taking two quarterbacks in one recruiting class is very rare, so what is the reason for his offer to Jarrard? With how good Edmunds is, schools have continued to pursue him heavily despite his commitment. Georgia is one school, in particular, that continues to push for the California signal caller.

With it being known that schools are still pursuing Edmunds, and he is at least still listening, it’s smart for the Buckeyes staff to keep their options open in case something changes. Jarrard is a nice player to bet on right now, one who is rising big time this offseason. One could argue that Jarrard might end up being ranked higher than Edmunds in the end.

Jarrard has continued to rise up the rankings this offseason. He is now considered a four-star player according to the On3 Industry ranking. That rating has Jarrard currently pegged as the No. 199 overall player, No. 16 quarterback, and No. 26 player in the state of Georgia for the 2026 recruiting class.

Like his recruiting rankings, Jarrard’s recruiting rankings have also continued to get more and more impressive. Some of his top offers so far include the Buckeyes, Georgia, Miami, Auburn, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Indiana, UNC, NC State, Illinois, Mississippi State, Syracuse, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Duke, and Cincinnati among several others.

The 6-3, 190-pound passer experienced a breakout season in 2024. In his first year as the full time starter, Jarrard threw for 2,647 yards and 31 touchdowns while only throwing five interceptions and completing nearly 72 percent of his passes. The Georgia native also added another rushing score on the ground.
