Carrollton (Ga.) cornerback Dorian Barney pulled off a shocker over the weekend when he announced he was flipping his commitment from the Michigan Wolverines to the Ole Miss Rebels.
Then, he took it one step further when he declared his recruitment was over and he was shutting things down – sticking with the Rebels. Barney was in attendance for Ole Miss' 24-19 win over the LSU Tigers. Rivals' Ben Garrett caught up with him afterwards to talk about the elite defensive effort by Pete Golding's defense.
“The defense for Ole Miss did its job kept LSU from establishing any real momentum, especially on the ground,” Barney said. “LSU ran into trouble with penalties, and Ole Miss made enough plays in the fourth quarter to seal it. Home-field energy was high. It felt like every drive mattered, and the Rebel fans seemed locked in. The crowd gave Ole Miss momentum, especially when LSU was trying to mount a comeback.”
Thank you to every program & all the coaches who recruited me. The last 4yrs It’s been a fun, and long journey during this recruitment process. With my commitment to Ole Miss, I’ll be shutting down my recruitment and focus on the rest of my Sr YR to finish strong with my team pic.twitter.com/EkDqAmFaSN

“The environment was crazy,” Barney said. “My first time going to a Ole Miss game didn’t disappoint me. The direction (Kiffin is) leading the team in is great, he’s one of the best coaches in college football. If they keep playing this way I see a Natty in them.”
Barney noted he and his family "let it all play out".
"Me and my family just let it all play out. We talked and prayed about it," Barney said to 247Sports' Tom Loy. "Ole Miss is a program I could see myself achieving my goals and developing at. The staff played a big factor in this. I'm very happy about this decision."
"The Rebels’ No. 1 quarterback target Keegan Croucher returned with his parents and brother and told Rivals that Ole Miss is currently setting the pace," Wiltfong said. "Penn State and Oregon are the competition but they have to make up ground right now. He’ll be back in Happy Valley for the Indiana game."
Two 2027 blue chippers were in town and came away major impressed. Brother Martin (La.) five-star wide receiver Easton Royal was joined by Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) four-star wide receiver Kesean Bowman. Wiltfong caught up with them as well.
“I had another great time as always. One of the things I noticed while being back on campus is how crazy the environment is,” Royal told Rivals. “The staff was amazing … They showed why I’m a priority. From the moment I stepped on campus, everyone knew who I was and spoke to me, and they made sure I was good.”
“They are one of the teams I can see myself playing at,” Royal added. “They’re a pretty good contender.”
“The environment down in Oxford was crazy,” Bowman said. “You could just feel the energy all around campus and in the stadium. The fans showed a lot of love and it felt like a big time SEC atmosphere. What Ole Miss has been doing to start this season just shows how much coach Kiffin has this program headed in the right direction. You can see the confidence in the players, the way they play fast and aggressive, and it’s exciting to think about being part of that. It definitely opened my eyes to how special things are getting down there.
“Honestly, Ole Miss compares really well with everybody I’m looking at. What stood out was how genuine the coaches were and how much energy the whole program has right now. Tennessee, and some of the other schools I’m high on, bring a lot to the table too. It’s more about finding where I feel the best fit and connection, and Ole Miss definitely made a strong impression this weekend.”
