Everyone quickly figured out who Evangel Christian (La.) quarterback Peyton Houston was last fall. Houston and his teammates took on Captain Shreve (La.) in an instant Louisiana classic – ending in overtime. Maybe the most insane thing about this October contest was Houston threw for 817 yards and eight touchdowns AND STILL LOST.
The 77-76 loss almost got Houston to the national single-game record set by former Davidson Day (N.C.) quarterback Will Grier when he threw for 837 yards in a 2012 playoff game.
Now, Houston is focused on getting better for the upcoming season rather than chasing records.
I mean… it’s just silly at this point. Peyton Houston is doing whatever he wants.

The four-star 2027 QB scrambles left and fires a 31-yard TD strike to push Evangel’s lead to 56-42. He’s been surgical tonight.

He mentions Texas, Southern Cal, Texas A&M, Clemson, and Oklahoma as a few schools who are standing out early and making him feel like "the biggest priority". But for now it seems like the Longhorns might have an edge.
"I've had the longest relationship with coach (AJ) Milwee," Houston said. "I've been with him since my 7th grade year so that relationship has been really long."
Rivals' Sam Spiegelman also recently spoke with Houston about his recruitment. The Trojans are probably Texas' biggest competition as of now – reporting he traveled to Los Angeles recently for a private workout with Lincoln Riley.
“I always love being back there. It’s been a blessing to have the opportunity to have a private workout with Lincoln Riley – that meant a lot to me. It was a blessing for sure.”
The 2027 prospect finished his sophomore season with 4,480 yards and 38 touchdowns – completing 70 percent of his passes. He also added 690 yards on the ground and seven more scores.
"One of the most sought-after signal-callers in the class, Houston showed why he's a wanted man at USC, Notre Dame, Miami and plenty of other places as he fired tight and accurate spirals to all three levels," Shipp said. "We had him going 12-of-14 passing for 125 yards and three touchdowns during the 7-on-7 game. Houston must figure out when and how to dial back the pace, but he's got the arm talent to be a high-volume passer in college."
Houston attended Steve Sarkisian's Elite Camp last month. He told 247Sports' Jordan Scruggs he felt like he did well in front of the Longhorns' staff.
"Yeah, just coming out here to compete, just, you got some top guys out here that you always want to see around at the camp circuit, so just coming out here to compete and just have some fun playing football today."
He has a close relationship with both Sarkisian and Milwee, too.
"With them, they're the same every time I come out here, coach us real hard, making sure you can get the best out of this camp you can get. They coach us like we're one of the players now. So it's just great work out here, for sure.
"Coach Milwee and coach Sark, those two guys are just awesome people, awesome coaches, and just knowing the history they had with putting quarterbacks into the league, it's just a great place."
There's a ways to go in this one, but it feels like a Southern Cal-Texas battle.
