In today’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition — I look at three big recent topics from the recruiting trail and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
Some people hate it, but a lot of coaches I know like this idea. Official visits are allowed in the spring now, and many kids are ready to pick their school before the true summer swing. It allows players time to focus on their senior year and to just be a kid again for a little while. With more and more enrolling early, their senior year is already diminished, and recruiting into December can be hectic. And for coaches, they can chill a bit in July, and it can make the college job a little more appealing. I don’t see an issue here at all.
UPDATE: NCAA football officials meeting in Indianapolis this week to discuss calendar change for Signing Day. Here's what they are proposing -- three signing periods: Last Wednesday in June, the Wednesday following the regular season and first Wednesday in February. pic.twitter.com/ckPHuh5bs1

Another Ohio State WR commit from Florida being targeted by everyone? Weird. UGA is the latest to offer the talented receiver (and watch how his rating skyrockets with these new offers), and Notre Dame, Miami, Oregon, and others are pushing hard. And why not? He had 93 receptions into 1,500 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. It’s a long way away, but I think he will stick with OSU like Jeremiah Smith did, but there will be a lot of flirting going on.
2025 Jayvan Boggs with a nasty route. He went for 210 and 3 TD last week. Already has 3 TDs for Cocoa tonight against STA. pic.twitter.com/qy47S6fezD

Marcus Freeman is a better recruiter than Brian Kelly, that’s clear. He’s also more aggressive. But 17 commitments, and it’s still February? For a team with true academic restrictions, that’s impressive. This class doesn’t have a five-star bell cow and has a lot of 3 stars that will be bumped to 4 stars simply because they committed to Notre Dame, but it is a solid group. I like the quality of Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Oregon, and others better so far, but 17 is a crazy impressive number.
