The Chicago Red Stars will be without one of their holdover attackers from last season for the rest of the 2024 NWSL campaign. Chicago announced Saturday that forward Ava Cook sustained a knee injury in training this week, which was determined to be a torn ACL for the former Michigan State Spartan.
The club subsequently placed Cook on the season-ending injury list, confirming that the forward will miss the rest of the 2024 season.
Cook, 25, has scored six goals for the Red Stars since being selected by Chicago in the second round (18th overall) of the 2022 NWSL Draft. She scored the second goal in the Red Stars' season-opening win over the Utah Royals and was largely operating on the left wing after spending the early parts of her professional career as a center forward.
Cook is in the final year of her rookie contract, but Chicago has a club option for the 2025 NWSL season, according to Spotrac.
