The Green Bay Packers are set to hire Boston College defensive line coach Vince Oghobasse, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. Oghobaase spent the past four seasons working for the Eagles under Jeff Hafley, whom the Packers recently hired as their defensive coordinator.
Additionally, Silverstein reported that the Packers will not retain passing game coordinator Greg Williams and inside linebacker coach Kirk Olivadotti. Olivadotti is set to join the Seahawks staff under new coach Mike McDonald.
Oghobaase is set to replace defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery. He bring previous experience working with Hafley in the NFL for two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 and 2017. Oghobaase has also worked as a defensive line coach at UCLA (2018-19) and as a graduate assistant at Ohio State (2013-15) and Duke (2011-12).
The Packers ranked 16th in the NFL this past season with 45 sacks. Green Bay also ranked 23rd in the league in scoring defense and allowed 4.4 yards per carry to opposing running backs. It’s clear they have some room to improve after finishing 9-8 to reach the playoffs, and Oghobaase will hope to contribute to that as he reunites with Hafley.
