After a convincing run that saw New York beat the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Indiana Pacers were too much for them to swallow and beat the Knicks in six games.
It seems to look like the Knicks front office wasn't satisfied with the outcome and what they were able to achieve this season, and it led to New York parting ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Thibodeau worked as the Knicks' head coach from 2020-2025, leading the team to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 25 years, helping New York to a 226-174 record in that span.
The Knicks made playoff appearances in four of the five seasons Thibodeau was at the helm.
It was a controversial move by New York, as they continue to move forward in hopes that they can get over the playoff hump and win the franchise's first NBA championship since 1973.
Fellow New York basketball icon and the head coach of the St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team, Rick Pitino, was able to comment on the Knicks moving on from their head coach.
"I feel bad for Thibs because he captured all of New York and captured something very, very special. A lot of us don't comprehend what happened, but Thibs is going to be well taken care of," Pitino said while speaking with the press on Wednesday.

Pitino is coming off a similar postseason letdown, as St. John's was eliminated by John Calipari's Arkansas Razorbacks in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Both Pitino and Thibodeau are now in each of their respective offseasons, and it looks like only one of them will be keeping their job in The Big Apple.
