According to Billy Reinhardt, former North Carolina star RJ Davis has agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis did not hear his name called at the 2025 NBA Draft but is still getting an opportunity at the next level. A trip across the country is now in store to compete with the Lakers.
“Source: RJ Davis, former UNC star, has agreed to a contract with the Lakers,” Reinhardt said via X.
Davis spent five seasons at North Carolina, being one of the more decorated players in the program’s history. The 2023-2024 season was easily Davis’ best, earning a Consensus All-American honor for his performances with the Tar Heels. That year, he averaged 21.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
Four of the five years Davis was in school, UNC found its way into the NCAA Tournament. No run was better than 2022 when the Tar Heels made the Final Four. They wound up beating arch-rival Duke to end the career of head coach Mike Krzyzewski in New Orleans, earning a spot in the national championship game. Unfortunately, North Carolina lost to Kansas, falling just short of adding to the school’s historic basketball legacy.
Now, the goal is to make a similar impact at the next level. Davis will get his chance to prove his way and fully work his way into the Lakers organization.
Arthur Kaluma was a productive power forward at three programs through his collegiate career. That’s now led him into the league after the NBA Draft.
The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Kaluma to a deal as an undrafted free agent, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported. The news came down shortly after Thursday’s second round of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Kaluma appeared in 134 games, 131 being starts, over four seasons with two at Creighton followed by one apiece at Kansas State and Texas. He’d average 12.2 points (43.8% FG, 32.1% 3PT on 1.1 makes), 6.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists for the Bluejays, Wildcats, and Longhorns. Kaluma had one of the best seasons of his career as a junior at K-State, posting 14.4 points (42.7% FG, 34.5% 3PT on 1.5 makes), 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists after transferring to Manhattan. Then, after transferring for his senior year in Austin, Kaluma put up 12.3 points (46.2% FG, 35.9% 3PT), 7.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, plus nearly a steal and block per game, for UT.
