Midway through Thursday’s team drills at New York Jets training camp, the atmosphere shifted from focused intensity to sudden concern.
On his fifth rep of 11-on-11 work, quarterback Justin Fields rolled right, let fly a short throw toward tight end Jeremy Ruckert, then went down immediately. He sat up briefly, shook off the initial shock and limped toward the sideline under his own power, aided by a trainer, before heading into the injury tent for evaluation.
After several tense minutes of sideline assessment, a medical cart arrived to transport Fields back to the locker room.
Coach Aaron Glenn promptly halted the period, sending the team into special-teams work with veteran Tyrod Taylor taking first-team reps in Fields’s absence.
Shortly afterwards, former NFL Pro Bowler and now college football analyst Robert Griffin III posted "Prayers up for Justin Fields" on X.

Fields arrived in New York this spring on a two-year, $40 million deal that included $30 million in guaranteed money.
The contract made him the Jets’ clear starter and vaulted him into the team’s top earners despite his youth and relative inexperience in the AFC East market.
In three seasons with the Chicago Bears and one with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fields has compiled 7,780 passing yards, 45 touchdown passes and 31 interceptions, along with 2,509 rushing yards and 19 rushing scores.
He set the single-game NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback (178), became the third signal-caller in league history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and finished last year in Pittsburgh with a 4–2 record in his six starts, completing 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception while adding 289 yards and five rushing touchdowns on 62 carries.
The Jets themselves enter 2025 aiming to shake off a 5–12 finish in 2024, their worst mark since 2021 and one that landed them third in the AFC East.
As of now, no official timetable on Fields has been given; however, local reporters expect an update after Friday’s practice when Glenn addresses the media.
