Robert MacIntyre Bows Out of 2024 BMW Championship Due to Lower Back Injury

In a surprising turn of events ahead of the 2024 BMW Championship at Castle Pines, Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre has withdrawn from the tournament, citing a lower back injury that has put a premature end to his playoff aspirations.

MacIntyre, who has shown promising form throughout the season, was considered a strong contender in this year’s FedExCup Playoffs. His withdrawal from the tournament came after playing nine holes on Saturday.

The Impact of MacIntyre's Withdrawal

MacIntyre wasn't at the top of the leaderboard at the BMW Championship after the first two rounds of the weekend saw him enter Saturday's third round at -1. After shooting a +2 through the first nine holes, he was far enough off pace to say his withdrawal probably won't have too much of an impact on how things will shake out in Colorado.

While the immediate future sees MacIntyre off the course, it is still too early to tell if he will be unable to compete in the FedEx Cup finale next weekend at East Lake. He currently projects to be inside the top 30 and would technically advance on to the final event of the 2024 season even despite this week's withdrawal.
