If Hurricane Erin was in a boxing match, Round One was the Caribbean. Round Two was the United States’ East Coast. And Round Three? Europe.

The bell has been rung for the third and final bout, as waves and weather from Erin are beginning to hit Europe from Portugal all the way up to the UK. And speaking of the latter, large surf has been pounding certain areas, creating dangerous conditions.

In the video below, which comes from Carlow Weather, a massive rogue wave slams a seawall at Roonagh Pier in Ireland. It jumps the jetty, then inundates the parking lot, moving cars around like they’re Hot Wheels in a kid’s toybox. Check it out:

Per Carlow Weather: “High tide at Roonagh Pier this evening as those big seas I mentioned. Take care if parking near coast over next 36 hours or out walking for rogue waves and coastal flooding.”

And there’s more where that came from.

According to Nic Von Rupp, Portugal native and Nazaré charger, “Never ever have I seen a swell like this in the peak of summer in Europe. Next week is going to be 4.5 Meters at 20 seconds. These are going to be huge waves, these are the swells we wait for the whole winter and it’s coming in the peak of summer. It’s going to be Nazaré at maximum capacity, 60-foot plus. France is going to be massive. Canaries. Morocco. Everywhere is getting blasted with tons of swell.”

NVR added: “What’s going on in this world? I would love to hear what you guys have to say, any thoughts: climate change, heating of the Atlantic Ocean. I’ve never seen anything like this in over 20 years.”

It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming days over in Europe, both from a carnage and a surfing standpoint. Stay tuned. This could be HUGE.
