Roster Cutdowns Predicted To Be Tough Time For Cowboys' Deuce Vaughn

We are officially at the sour point of the offseason, and the Dallas Cowboys will now begin the task of trimming their roster from 90 players down to 53, a task that will see the NFL dreams of some players end.

One such player who is in the thick of position battles and being on the roster bubble is running back Deuce Vaughn.

In a room with a handful of backs ahead of him, Vaughn put his best foot forward in the preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons in the 31-13 win at AT&T Stadium, rushing for 42 yards on 10 carries.

Now, his fate is in the hands of head coach Brian Schottenheimer and the coaching staff, but Deuce isn't sweating it.

"It's putting the preseason to bed and understanding how I say control what you can control," Deuce said. "This preseason, try to maximize every opportunity that you had. Now understand that you put your best foot forward and whatever happens, happens. Without a doubt it's been a blessing to even be in this position going on year three now."

While this time might not be hard on Deuce, the same might not be said for his father, Chris, who is a scout for the Cowboys and famously got to call his son on draft night to tell him he was headed to Dallas.

And Deuce thinks that this time of year might be a little hard on his father, even though he won't show it.

"Probably more than he tells me,” Vaughn said on if this time of year affects his father. β€œHe’s a great dad, he keeps the business side and the dad's side separate, he's always been in my corner as a father, and he's someone that I always talk to. So, probably a little bit hard on him, but he's always been in my corner.”

We only have a couple of days to wait to see how Schottenheimer's final roster lands in his first season as a head coach.

Will Deuce make the cut? Either way, he's ready for whatever is next.
