Rueben Bain Jr. Could Transform Dolphins’ Front Seven
It is pretty clear that through three games, Miami will be picking at the top of the draft next April.
Whatever pick they end up with, presumably in the top five, there will be loud calls for the franchise to draft their next quarterback.
While that would be an understandable position, it truly depends on the status of Tua Tagovailoa.
If Miami can get out from underneath his contract and get a clean break, then drafting a quarterback in the top five would make a whole lot of sense.
Should the Dolphins not be able to part ways with the southpaw signal caller, Miami should address other areas of the team.
One clear area of weakness is the pass rush.
Even with Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Chop Robinson coming off the edge of the defense, Miami has not been able to generate much chaos for opposing quarterbacks, which has allowed for teams to attack a weak secondary.
There is an easy replacement for both.
Rueben Bain Jr.
Simply put, Bain Jr. has been one of the best players in all of college football this year with 11 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception for the second-ranked Hurricanes.
His underlying stats are even better.
According to Pro Football Focus, Bain Jr. has graded out as a 90.0 or higher in all four games this year for Miami.
It is not just a one-year wonder thing for Bain Jr. either.
During his freshman year, Bain Jr. tallied 7.5 sacks and was a freshman All-American before an injury derailed his sophomore year.
He is also very stout against the run as well, making him a three-down option potentially alongside Robinson and 2025 first-round pick Kenneth Grant.
Miami has had success with rookie defensive linemen in Robinson, Jordan Phillips, and Christian Wilkins.
Bain Jr. could continue that tradition and give the Dolphins a fearsome front seven for many years to come.
