Ohio State is set to lose a promising young coach to the NFL. Following the departures of Chip Kelly, Jim Knowles, LaAllen Clark, and Justin Frye, another member of the coaching staff has secured a new position.
Tight ends assistant Sean Binckes is making the move to join the coaching staff of the Las Vegas Raiders, as confirmed by Lettermen Row on Tuesday afternoon. He will work alongside new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who was the Buckeyes' offensive coordinator during their national championship season.
Binckes joined Ohio State's coaching staff in 2023 and has a coaching background spanning eight years. He played tight end at Long Island University-Post from 2012 to 2016, where he also obtained his bachelor's degree in health sciences. He later earned a master's degree in recreation and sports management from Florida International University.
Binckes began his coaching journey at Nassau Community College as a wide receivers coach in 2016, where he also served as the offensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach, eventually moving to the offensive line in 2019.
In 2021, he was the running backs coach at Florida International and then took on the role of wide receivers coach at Temple in 2022 before joining Ohio State. He worked for two seasons under Bailey, who has recently been elevated to co-offensive coordinator along with wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.
We called the move to promote Bailey as questionable, but the Hartline promotion has been widely praised.
