The 2025 Ryder Cup is set to take place at Bethpage Black in New York from September 26–28, 2025, with automatic qualifiers now confirmed for both Team USA and Team Europe. Attention has shifted to the captains’ wildcard picks. Some of the game’s biggest names are safe, while others are sweating on last-minute calls that could determine their Ryder Cup fate.

Team USA Ryder Cup 2025 Update

Six American players have already locked in their spots for Bethpage Black. Scottie Scheffler , the world number one, leads the group. He is joined by J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele , Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau.

These six secured their places through the Ryder Cup points standings and can now focus fully on preparing for the contest in New York. For some, like Scheffler and Schauffele, this was always expected. For others, like Spaun and Henley, their consistency this season has finally paid off.

Captain Keegan Bradley has six wildcard picks to announce on Wednesday, August 27. Justin Thomas (seventh), Collin Morikawa (eighth), Ben Griffin (ninth) and Maverick McNealy (tenth) are all hoping Bradley will call their names. Patrick Cantlay, Brian Harman, Andrew Novak and Cameron Young are also in the mix but are at more risk of missing out. Bradley himself sits 11th in the standings and he has not ruled out the possibility of picking himself as a playing captain. If he does, he would become the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963.

Team Europe Ryder Cup 2025 Update

Europe has also locked in six automatic qualifiers. Rory McIlroy headlines the list, bringing both experience and firepower. He is joined by Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Højgaard, and Tyrrell Hatton.

This group already gives Europe a solid balance of veterans and young talent. McIlroy and Rose bring years of Ryder Cup leadership, while Højgaard’s inclusion shows Europe’s confidence in the next generation. Fleetwood, fresh off strong form in recent events, will also be one of Donald’s key men.

Europe’s captain Luke Donald has six wildcard picks to announce on Monday, September 1. His choices could make the difference in Europe’s bid to defend the trophy. Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland are almost certain to be chosen despite missing out on automatic qualification. Matt Fitzpatrick and Shane Lowry are also favorites to be picked, given their major-winning credentials and team spirit.

Sepp Straka and Ludvig Åberg are two more names high on Donald’s list. Both have been in good form and bring depth to the team. A surprise could also come in the form of Harry Hall, who has impressed with steady performances this season. However, Aaron Rai, Niklas Nørgaard, and Nicolai Højgaard are all expected to miss out.
