The New York Liberty currently sit in fourth place in the standings during the 2025 WNBA season. They started off the year with a 9-0 record, but a four-game losing streak after the All-Star break and dropping eight of their last 13 contests has them stumbling.
On Thursday evening, the Liberty lost a home matchup to the 9-26 Chicago Sky. This was a brutal defeat, especially considering they are just 0.5 games ahead of the Phoenix Mercury for homecourt advantage in the playoffs, and there are eight games left in the season.
Star guard Sabrina Ionescu did not have her best game against the Sky, going 0-5 from the three-point line and fouling out with 30 seconds left in a tight game.
With another key matchup against the second-place Atlanta Dream looming on Saturday afternoon, it will be important for the Liberty to pull together and string together some victories to ensure a top-four seed in the postseason.
Unfortunately, there is a chance that Ionescu, a four-time All-Star guard, might not play against Atlanta. She popped up on Friday's injury report with what they are classifying as a left foot injury.
If she does not play for New York on Saturday, it would be a devastating blow. Ionescu is currently the team's leading scorer at 19.0 points per game, and her 5.3 assists per contest are second on the Liberty to only Natasha Cloud.
Sabrina Ionescu (left foot) is officially questionable for tomorrow’s matchup against the Atlanta Dream.

Because Ionescu played 30 minutes against the Sky on Thursday and did not come out of the game until fouling out at the end, many WNBA fans were confused about when she suffered the injury.
Some noticed that she may have hurt it attempting to grab a rebound over Sky center Kamilla Cardoso. Still, several of these fans took to social media to convey their confusion about the severity of the injury and ask questions about the situation.
"What is going ON ," one fan questioned.
"WHAT,' another asked.
"I was expecting this but I need more information re: does this mean at least it's not broken?" one fan wondered. "Did they do imaging? Are they just hoping it gets magically better by tomorrow early afternoon?"
'WHAT DO U MEAN," a fan replied.
"Do we know anything re: Sabrina?" another commented. "I know she’s Questionable but I’m assuming it’s more of a comfort thing vs. actual damage to her foot??"
"can you find out if she needs an MRI?" a fan asked.
