Scottie Scheffler’s rise from generational to all-time great continues after a 2025 PGA Championship win. Scheffler, 28, previously won two Masters championships in 2022 and 2024, respectively. Scheffler is currently ranked as World No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking and held that rank for over 100 weeks. However, Scheffler’s hilarious thoughts about the Dallas Mavericks took the world by storm. Here’s why.

Scottie Scheffler’s Thoughts

Scottie Scheffler is a professional golfer primarily known for his robotic antics on and off the course. Just moments after Friday’s second round of the Memorial Tournament, Scheffler seemed to be happier than usual. The World No. 1 carded his second straight 2-under 70 to enter the weekend at 4-under. He’s in a tie for fourth place, three back of the lead.

After Friday’s second round, Scheffler was asked an interesting question — not about the Memorial Tournament, but the NBA Playoffs instead. He was asked if was following the NBA Playoffs. He responded with a grin, “The [Dallas] Mavericks.” His response appears to confirm he’s a Dallas Mavericks fan, even though the Mavericks were eliminated from playoff contention on April 18, 2025.

Scheffler quipped back, “You’ll have to wait a while!” Scheffler added, “Yeah, first pick.” Scheffler’s follow-up comments seem to show excitement for the Mavericks’ securing of the No. 1 overall pick at the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery. His namesake comments also seem to show excitement for the possibility of the Mavericks selecting Duke star Cooper Flagg at the 2025 NBA Draft.

Scottie Scheffler’s Background

Despite being born and raised in New Jersey, Scottie Scheffler and his family eventually moved to Dallas, Texas. Scheffler attended the University of Texas at Austin and remains a devoted Texas Longhorns supporter to this day. He was the only son out of four children. His grandfather was a United States military veteran who served in the Korean War.

Final Thoughts

Scottie Scheffler is one of the best golfers in the United States. Scheffler currently finds himself in a great position at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Scheffler is three back from the favorite to win on the PGA Tour again. Nine of 72 players in the field are even under par at the time of writing.

Scheffler’s responses regarding the Dallas Mavericks won’t bring Luka Doncic back, but the Mavericks’ fanbase can be satisfied to see a star golfer as a Mavericks fan. Scheffler previously called the Doncic trade “tough” and “genuinely sad” in an interview with the SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio Show.”
