Tom Brady was a sixth-round pick that evolved into the most decorated player in NFL history.
Shedeur Sanders expects to be an early first-rounder next month as one of the top-two quarterback prospects in his class along with Miami's Cam Ward.
At the NFL scouting combine last week, Sanders made claims about how he feels akin to the mental fortitude that Brady demonstrated throughout a legendary 23-year NFL career that produced seven Super Bowl rings. The 23-year-old prospect from Colorado related to how Brady could "beat people with his mind."
"I’m able to see what he has done and mentally how he was able to beat people with his mind," Sanders said during an interview with ProFootballTalk at the NFL scouting combine. "That’s why he was able to play to the year he was able to play. I see what he was doing, adding this, this and this to his game and that’s why I know I’m not at my best product yet. I’m nowhere near where I need to be and where I want to be and where I desire to be because there are certain things going into the offseason that you have to work on, grow at and indulge in. One step at a time."
Brady is a minority owner in the Las Vegas Raiders—owners of the No. 6 overall pick. The Raiders have been linked to Sanders in recent weeks and Brady will play a key role in the team’s offseason personnel decisions.
Sanders has advertised his interest in heading for Las Vegas by way of his tweets celebrating Raiders losses down the stretch [so they would result in better draft position to presumably select Sanders].
He added extra syrup to his response about the prospect of being selected by Las Vegas when asked at the combine.
“I met with [Vegas] here, I met with a lot of teams [at the combine],” Sanders said. “It’s truly exciting, being able to meet coach [Pete Carroll] and everybody with the organization and staff. So, if they call me and they say, ‘Come on and visit,’ you know I’ll be there.”
