For the longest time it appeared that the race for the quarterback in the NFL Draft was a two-horse race between Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.
But a new report suggests that Sanders might be falling out of the top-two entirely.
Appearing on NFL Live, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller addressed the state of quarterbacks in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. He said that for a while it appeared that Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart was the distant third-best. But he believes that Dart is rapidly rising up the draft boards and might even leave the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine as QB2 - dropping Sanders to the third-best QB in his stead.
“I think the big conversation, who’s QB3 in the 2025 NFL Draft?” Miller said, via On3. “It seems as if Miami’s Cam Ward has established himself as the top passer. But I’ve talked to three NFL scouts this week who believe Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart has a shot to leave the Combine as QB2, which would push Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders to the third spot in this year’s draft class – which I think would shock all of us. But crazy things happen at the Combine, and a good workout by Jaxson Dart could certainly start to push his rise up.
“I have him ranked as the third quarterback in this draft. But as teams dive into the tape, as they get past things like the Senior Bowl and prep for the Combine, Jaxson Dart definitely has a lot of buzz pushing him up in that direction.”
NFL fans have certainly soured on Sanders since the end of the Colorado Buffaloes' 2024 season. While he set records for accuracy in 2024, the months since his final game have allowed fans to pick apart his game.
What many have determined is that Sanders struggles with his deep ball and takes way too many sacks.
That isn't to say that he can't still be a great quarterback or even the best in his class, but there's clearly some things that need to be worked on before he's even a viable starter, let alone a franchise star.
Will Sanders have an Aaron Rodgers-style fall down the NFL Draft?
