NFL safety Jonathan Owens is one of only a handful of active players who are less famous than their spouse and in an even smaller club of people who are less decorated as athletes. But as the husband to international gymnastics megastar Simone Biles, wherever he moves, the fans will follow.
According to Owens' agent Sunny Shah via ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Owens is signing a deal with the Colts. Per NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, it's a one-year deal for undisclosed compensation.
"Safety Jonathan Owens is headed to the Colts, @SunnyTheAgent confirms. Seven-year vet spent the last two seasons with the Bears," Fowler wrote on X.

Owens is coming off his seventh NFL season and second with the Bears. Though despite playing in all 17 games, he was mostly relegated to special teams and finished the season with 19 tackles - his fewest since 2021.
The good news for Owens is that he's joining a Colts teams that's precariously thin at safety right now. There's a good chance that he'll get a chance to at least compete for the starting job this summer if he still has the skills to pay the bills.
Biles is widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts in history, redefining the sport with her power, difficulty, and consistency. A four-time gold medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Biles captured global attention in Rio by winning the all-around, vault, floor exercise, and team competitions. She added to her legacy with a dominant run at multiple World Championships, becoming the most decorated gymnast—male or female—in world championship history.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she withdrew from several events to prioritize her mental health, sparking an international conversation about athlete well-being, before returning to competition and later reclaiming her status atop the sport at the 2024 Summer Olympics with additional medal success.
Outside the gym, Biles has become a prominent advocate for mental health awareness and survivor advocacy, using her platform to push for accountability and athlete safety reforms.
In her personal life, she married Owens in 2023. The couple’s relationship has drawn public interest as two elite athletes balancing high-profile careers. Through her athletic achievements and cultural impact, Biles has cemented a legacy that extends far beyond gymnastics, influencing conversations about excellence, resilience, and empowerment in sports.
