Skip Bayless Compares Running Back Blake Corum To Dallas Cowboys Legend
Kirthmon F. Dozier / USA TODAY NETWORK

Skip Bayless is known for his hot takes and his Dallas Cowboys fandom. The NFL Combine is a lightning rod for wild overreactions. Players who show off their impressive physical skills will cause fans and analysts to make wild claims about a player’s career. Michigan running back Blake Corum had a great showing on Saturday, and Bayless compared him to Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith.

Skip Bayless Compares Blake Corum To Emmitt Smith

Bayless didn’t have a lot to say, but he posted on X that “Blake Corum has some Emmitt Smith in him.” It is worth mentioning that Corum did have a great showing. While he wasn’t the fastest in the 40-yard dash, he showed his elusiveness in the other drills. He showed how quickly he could change direction, beating out many of the other participants in those drills. Corum followed it up by doing the most bench presses of any running back at the event.

Buyer Beware

We’ve seen this before at the Combine. Last year, Nolan Smith had measurables that were off the charts. He had a massively disappointing season with the Eagles. The fastest players in the 40-yard dash often do not make it in the NFL. It is great to see Corum perform well at the NFL Combine. However, Bayless falls into the trap many do at this time of year. We fall in love with drills and forget that it is not a perfect comparison to what will happen on the field.

Did the event help Corum’s draft stock? Probably. Many of the running backs were big winners, and it will be interesting to see which team adds the Wolverines running back to their team in April.
