DALLAS — Keon Ambrose-Hylton had 19 points as SMU just overwhelmed Texas A&M Commerce, 90-47, at Moody Coliseum on Sunday. It probably really wasn't as close as the score indicates in reality.

"Defense set the tone for the game," Mustangs' coach Rob Lanier said after the game on KAAM 770's broadcast. "In general, we were locked in defensively and just came out with the right attitude. That team is better than that final score indicates but our defense was the difference. The defense was so good it created some opportunities for us (offensively). It actually affected their defense because we created some open-floor opportunties. For the most part we did a good job of moving without the ball."

Ambrose-Hylton finished 9-of-9 from the floor for the Mustangs (6-3). Samuell Williamson scored 13 points, going 4-of-5 and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Zhuric Phelps had 11 points and finished 4-of-6 from the field.

As a team, the Ponies shot a red-hot 69.2 percent from the field. It was the fourth-best outing ... ever. Combine that with 26 assists and you get the idea how out of hand this thing go out of hand really fast.

"We had to do a better job inside the paint and we did that," Lanier said. "We hadn't been doing that well."

Khaliq Abdul-Mateen led the way for the Lions (4-6) with 12 points and three steals. Jerome Brewer Jr. added 11 points for Texas A&M-Commerce. In addition, Kwo Agwa had nine points.

SMU's next game is Wednesday against Arizona State on the road. The game will be on FS1 at 9 p.m. and you can hear the game in Dallas on KAAM 770 AM.
