The Big 12 Conference is preparing to announce an expanded, multi‑year partnership with Microsoft that will significantly deepen its integration of Microsoft Copilot technology into both business and game-day operations.
The new agreement builds on the existing partnership and is expected to be formally revealed ahead of Big 12 Media Days next week in Frisco, Texas.
Under the expanded deal, Microsoft Copilot will be used to support both business and athletic functions across the conference. This includes streamlining administrative tasks, enhancing digital workflows, and integrating AI tools into coaching and game preparation environments.
The conference’s use of Microsoft Surface tablets, which have been deployed on the sidelines since 2023, will now include Copilot capabilities designed to support staff and coaches in real-time.
Big 12 Media Days, scheduled for July 8–9 at The Star in Frisco, will also be “powered” by Copilot.
Media members covering the event will be able to use a Copilot-based Teams agent to access real-time schedules, player rep availability, press conference transcripts, and other relevant information. The goal is to create a more seamless and efficient media experience through the use of AI.
The Big 12 initially partnered with Microsoft last summer, marking the tech giant’s first official alignment with a major college conference. The move was framed as part of Commissioner Brett Yormark’s broader vision to modernize the league and position it as a forward-thinking brand in college athletics.
With the expanded partnership, the Big 12 is aiming to enhance operational efficiency, media coverage, and in-game performance through intelligent AI systems. Microsoft leaders have echoed the sentiment, calling the Big 12 a unique platform for showcasing the next generation of productivity tools in a high-stakes sports environment.
The announcement will serve as a backdrop for next week’s media days and sets the stage for a tech-forward 2025 season. From daily operations to sideline execution, the Big 12 is embracing innovation in a way no other conference currently does.
