On May 9th, Southern transfer edge rusher Trey Laing committed to the Indiana Hoosiers. He announced the news on Twitter.

Last season, he recorded 38 total tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss, and five sacks. He received offers from Appalachian State, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee, Ohio, Purdue, Rutgers, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Toledo, Troy, Tulane, UAB, and Washington State, per 247Sports.

Laing went to Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee, FL. He committed to USF. After redshirting his freshman season, he appeared in two games for the program in 2019, posting six total tackles and one tackle for loss.

In 2020, he transferred to East Mississippi Community College. In 10 games, he had 53 total tackles, six sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception.

After one season at EMCC, he transferred to Southern.
