An active Spanish footballer has come out as bisexual, following the example set by Australian prospect Josh Cavallo.

Cavallo received plaudits from some of the biggest names in the sport after releasing a statement revealing he was a gay man.

In doing so, the Aussie became the first openly gay active footballer, a huge stride forward for a game in which the LGBTQ+ community clearly don’t feel comfortable residing.

He has proven to be an inspiration for another active footballer, a Spanish one, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that they have written a letter revealing that they are bisexual.

The player in question has withheld his name, revealing his belief that he doesn’t feel it’s important, but he identifies as bisexual and is currently in a relationship with another man.

We really hope this is just the beginning of a domino effect that’ll be a consequence of Cavallo’s bravery. Footballers should feel comfortable being openly gay in 2021 without fear of abuse.

While the Spanish footballer in question claims not to see the significance of revealing his name, you imagine he has withheld it through fear of what sort of response he would face.

No longer should that be the case in our sport.
