Three years after he escaped the deadly gameshow Squid Game in 2021, Seong Gi-hun is back.

Netflix has released the debut trailer for Squid Game season two, which releases on Netflix the day after Christmas on December 26.

In a twist to the format, which ordinarily sees 100 financially unstable South Koreans enter into a tournament to win a monumental cash prize (or die trying), Gi-hun is the first contestant to return for a second go.

This means he knows all the dirty tricks the showrunners will pull, and can coach his fellow competitors through it. For instance, the trailer shows him once again take part in Red Light, Green Light, where you can only move when you see a green light - unless you want to be shot in the head.

“I’ve played these games before!” Gi-hun screams at one point, looking like he’s being pushed to the brink. So why return? It’s all in an effort to take revenge on the murderous Squid Game creators.

“Player 456 gave up going to the states and comes back with a new resolution in his mind,” goes the synopsis. “Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.”

Comments under the trailer on Netflix’s YouTube account are relentlessly positive. @kjl4983 writes: “Love the aspect of Gi-hun taking control and mentoring the players.”

@JustPineapple writes: “I absolutely love the "one more game" part as it PEFRECTLY ENCAPSULATES the gambler mindset that got most of the contestants and SPECIFICALLY GI-HUN into the games in the first place.”

@HehanUduwelagedara writes: “‘I've played these games before’ Bro spoiled the first season ”
