Steelers quarterback explains why an unheralded WR went from being on the roster bubble to being a lock to make the 53-man roster

With so many questions in the Pittsburgh Steelers' WR room, it was open season throughout camp and the preseason outside of the top three of DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, and Roman Wilson.

Scotty Miller is one of the veterans still hoping to be a part of the roster when Pittsburgh trims it to 53 by Tuesday afternoon.

But if you ask one of his quarterbacks, you can see why he may as well be a lock.

Skylar Thompson notes Scotty Miller's success

"Reliable guy, super smart, very fast," said Thompson of Miller via video from Chris Adamski. "You can just count on him. He's just gonna run the right route. He's gonna get open, get separation. He's gonna make plays for you and you don't gotta make a perfect throw to him, either. I mean, he can adjust and he's just a good football player. Has a really good IQ and just a great teammate. I mean, all around Scotty is just a really good dude, I really enjoyed playing with him and being around him."

Scotty Miller is no stranger to having a Hall of Fame quarterback in his 40s as his starter. Miller not only won, but was an integral part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' passing attack during their run to Super Bowl victory back in 2020-2021.

He joined the Steelers last offseason after a cup of coffee with Arthur Smith and the Atlanta Falcons, and he just made the 53-man roster. Fast forward to this year, however, and Miller has been making plays both in camp and the preseason, no matter who has been throwing him the ball.

If you're going off the sample size provided over the last month, it's impossible to argue that Miller shouldn't be the WR #4 in Pittsburgh. Calvin Austin III is returning to health, Roman Wilson has taken a big step thus far, and DK Metcalf and Aaron Rodgers might form an incredible bond.

But barring a trade for another proven playmaker on the perimeter, I expect to see a lot of Scotty Miller. He has vastly outperformed Robert Woods, whom the Steelers signed in hopes of being a veteran depth piece in the slot.

That should leave Miller bullish not only on his chances to make the team, but to be a contributor during the regular season.
