Liverpool is taking on Newcastle United at an electric St. James' Park, and things were not looking good for the Premier League champions. Newcastle were ruthless with attacks and kept up the pressure.

The Liverpool team made mistakes and were not accurate with their passing. Despite the poor start to the game, Liverpool took the lead in the 35th minute thanks to a great strike from Ryan Gravenberch , who returned to the team after serving a one-game ban.

Ironically, a new one-game ban will be given to another Premier League player, but not a Liverpool player. Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon made a late challenge on Virgil Van Dijk late in the first half.

The forward was given a yellow card at first, but after a VAR check, Gordon received a straight red card. The referee revealed the reason for the red card. Gordon's cleats impacted Van Dijk's calf.

At halftime, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, who is in attendance, was furious with Gordon for making a challenge that had complicated the game for the home side.

Alan Shearer furious with Anthony Gordon's Red Card

On his X account, Alan Shearer expressed his opinion on the red card. Despite supporting Newcastle, Shearer admitted that it was a red card for Anthony Gordon and called the challenge 'stupid'.

Alan Shearer: "What a stupid challenge man. It’s a red card all day."

Images of Van Dijk's calf with the socks revealed that Gordon's challenge left two marks. Van Dijk spoke with Gordon after the Newcastle forward received a red card. Milos Kerkez was angry with Gordon after the challenge, and the two squared off.

Liverpool doubled their lead at the start of the second half with a goal from Hugo Ekitike . The goal was so quick in the second half that Arne Slot missed it as the manager was still in the tunnel.

In the 57th minute, Newcastle scored through a Bruno Guimaraes header. The Magpies managed to score despite being with ten men.

In the 88th minute, substitute William Osula scores the equalizer to tie the game 2-2.

Liverpool wins it in the 100th minute as Mohamed Salah plays a pass in the middle, Dominik Szoboszlai lets the ball through his legs, and Rio Ngumoha scores. This is the 16-year-old's first goal in the Premier League.
