Eight-year veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas signed a new contract with the Miami Dolphins. Douglas, a former third-round pick, spent the 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills but has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers.
Douglas hits free agency on the heels of a disappointing campaign. Starting in all 15 games, the veteran finished the season with no interceptions, five passes defended, 58 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and a 53.9 PFF grade, the 102nd-best mark out of 116 eligible players. However, even with his relative struggles, Buffalo still made it to the AFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, their season came to a premature end after narrowly losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rasul Douglas originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles, the West Virginia product played a complementary role as a rookie. Starting in five games while making 14 appearances, the rookie finished his inaugural season with two interceptions, 11 passes defended, 25 tackles, and a 64.1 PFF grade. With his help, the Eagles brought home their first Super Bowl in franchise history while taking down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
Douglas’ promising rookie season earned him a larger role in 2018 and he responded with a strong season. However, he regressed in 2019 and Philadelphia cut him ahead of the 2020 season. Landing with the Carolina Panthers, Douglas appeared in 14 games and made 11 starts while recording nine passes defended and 62 tackles.
Following this unremarkable start to his career, Rasul Douglas struggled to find a long-term contract. The West Virginia product spent time with the Raiders, Texans, and Cardinals but couldn’t keep a job until he signed with the Green Bay Packers in early October. He proved to be a true diamond in the rough, as he developed into a starting-caliber cornerback for the Packers and Buffalo Bills.
