On Christmas, fans will be able to see Superman actor David Corenswet play former New York Giants running back John Tuggle, the last pick of the 1983 NFL Draft, often dubbed as Mr. Irrelevant.
The first images of Corenswet playing Tuggle have surfaced, via People. In one of them, he is seen wearing an orange jersey that reads, “Mr. Irrelevant,” over his chest. In the second, he is running, likely training for football.
First look at David Corenswet in ‘MR. IRRELEVANT’.

People’s report also includes an image of Corenswet sharing an intimate scene with Isabel May. She will play the “love of John’s life,” Katie.
Corenswet will be playing Tuggle in the upcoming Mr. Irrelevant movie. Tuggle was selected with the last pick in the 1983 NFL Draft out of California.
His career was brief, as he only played the 1983 season in the NFL. He rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown in 16 games with the Giants.
Tuggle made a bigger splash on special teams. Tuggle was a standout special teamer, logging 156 return yards and a score. He also caught three passes for 50 yards.
Unfortunately, Tuggle died on Aug. 30, 1986. He was just 25 years old at the time of his passing. While his career was short, his impact is felt years later.
Now, his story will be told in a biopic directed by Jonathan Levine. Levine’s last movie was Long Shot, released in 2019. It starred Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen. The script for the project was written by Nick Santora. They will also serve as producers.
May, Michael Shannon, and David Krumholtz will also star in Mr. Irrelevant alongside Corenswet. Paramount Pictures is set to release the movie on Dec. 25, 2026.
SkyDance Sports, which previously made Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Air, is one of the production companies behind Mr. Irrelevant. They will produce the project alongside Blackjack Films and Megamix.
Corenswet is coming off a banner year in 2025. He starred in Superman in the title role, and he will reprise the role in Supergirl in June 2026.
Before playing Superman, Corenswet was best known for his roles in series such as The Politician, Hollywood, and Lady in the Lake. He also starred in Twisters alongside Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos.
