Well, that wasn't much of a game. We certainly missed on TCU covering the spread but made up for it with that Duggan-Bowers TD parlay! For tonight, we're going to stick with the prop route and load up a spot both on the hardwood and the ice.
Luguentz Dort of the Thunder has an over 1.5 line for his threes tonight, but we're skipping right past that to grab his alternate line here available on FanDuel. As it so often does, Dort popped on our radar because of his opponent. Tonight it's the Heat, a team that has allowed the fifth-most threes per game and the fourth-highest shooting percentage from deep this season.
That makes for an inviting matchup, so in we dive. Of the available Oklahoma City props for threes, Dort is topping the team in attempts of late, averaging 5.8 per game over his last five games. He's been efficient too, finishing with three "3PM" in four straight games. He's logged 3+ threes in five of his last six games, the consistency we like to see against a vulnerable defense like Miami.
The cherry on top was Dort's recent games against the Heat. Dort has nailed four treys in back-to-back meetings with the Heat on 15 total attempts. We're getting a +155 price for three, and this play checks every box for us.
It would appear books are tired of taking a bath on Jack Hughes shot props (or so they think), as they've bumped his line up to 4.5. It's not enough, and if you have access to FanDuel, keep your eyes peeled on alternate shot line later in the day, we'd be comfortable taking Hughes up to seven SOG.
Put simply, Hughes is the hottest shooter in the NHL right now. The Devils' young star is on a tear, putting up 5+ SOG in seven straight games, and finishing with six or more in six straight. Over his past two games, he's finished with shot totals of nine and 10. For good measure, the shots are correlating with goals, as Hughes has scored in five straight games, totaling seven in that stretch.
This is the type of streak that you ride out however long it may last. Yes, tonight's opponent, Carolina, is one of the stingiest teams to shots in the NHL, but to us, it matters not. Hughes has already seen the Hurricanes twice this season, finishing with seven and six SOG and scoring in both games. Carolina has had their penalty problems, and Hughes leads the New Jersey power play. Hughes deserves our trust tonight.
Georgia blows out TCU to win second straight National Championship — In a game that felt over midway through the second quarter, Georgia stamped their ticket as one of college football's elite programs. The Bulldogs became the first team to win back-to-back college football championships since Alabama did so in 2012 with a 65-7 beatdown of TCU. Georgia dominated from the jump on both sides of the football, leading to the most lopsided championship game we've seen in the CFP era. Georgia is currently the betting favorite to win again next season at +275, followed by Alabama (+500) and Ohio State (+800).
Bills' Damar Hamlin released from Cincinnati hospital and has returned to Buffalo — Damar Hamlin's remarkable recovery continues, as he has been deemed fit to travel to Buffalo to continue his treatment back home. After what we witnessed just one week ago, this news is as good as one could hope, and the Bills and the NFL community can breathe a sigh of relief. If one believes in narratives, it feels fair to now wonder if this could provide a boost to Buffalo's focus as the postseason begins. The Bills are +400 to win the Super Bowl, second to the Chiefs at +350.
Cardinals fire Kliff Kingsbury, five teams currently looking for a new coach — As expected, the Cardinals officially fired head coach Kliff Kingsbury, just months after signing him to an extension. GM Steve Keim has also stepped away due to his health. It appears a rift between Kyler Murray and Kingsbury set the course on this move, and Arizona will look to pick up the scraps on their 4-13 season. In other coaching news, Houston fired Lovie Smith yesterday, their second straight one-and-done year with a head coach. As of now, there are five teams in the market for a new coach: the Colts, Broncos, Panthers, Cardinals, and Texans. The Rams may join them if Sean McVay indeed leaves as is rumored.
