Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection will be releasing on consoles and PC sometime in 2022. The game was announced at Sony’s 2022 State of Play. Digital Eclipse confirmed the game would release on all major platforms and the Steam store.

The game was developed by Konami along with Digital Eclipse and [likely] their Eclipse engine. While the Konami logo has been a welcome sight on my TV for over 30 years, it is Digital Eclipse that has me really excited. With their Eclipse Engine, they’ve been able to put out some fantastic remasters in recent years. For me, Mega Man Legacy Collection and the Disney Classic Games Collection are top-tier.

What to Expect From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection

The collection will include 13 classic TMNT games. Those games are:

  • 1989 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade)*
  • 1991 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade)*
  • 1989 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES)
  • 1990 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES)
  • 1991 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
  • 1994 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (NES)
  • 1992 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (Super Nintendo)
  • 1993 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Super Nintendo)*
  • 1992 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Genesis)*
  • 1993 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Sega Genesis)
  • 1990 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (Game Boy)
  • 1991 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (Game Boy)
  • 1993 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (Game Boy)

    * Games that will feature online multiplayer

Honestly, I’m a little bummed there is no online multiplayer for SNES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. In fact, we already got a modern version of the arcade game in 2009 when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled came to PS3 and Xbox 360. In all honesty, that game came and left so quickly many missed it.

This announcement came out of nowhere, and it adds to a TMNT packed 2022. Shredder’s Revenge, a retro-inspired side-scrolling action game, is also set to release this year. All we need now is an announcement that Rocksteady is developing an Arkham City-esque TMNT game. Hey, a boy can dream, right?
