The Tennessee Vols wish it weren't the case, but thanks to their loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Fayetteville Super Regional, the UT program is part of a college baseball phenomenon that hasn't happened in nearly 70 years.

For the first time since 1957 (as noted by Baseball America), the College World Series won't include a team that's making back-to-back appearances.

All eight teams that reached Omaha in 2024 failed to advance to the College World Series in 2025.

Here are the eight teams that went to Omaha in 2024:

  • Tennessee Vols
  • Florida State Seminoles
  • North Carolina Tar Heels
  • Virginia Cavaliers
  • Kentucky Wildcats
  • NC State Wolfpack
  • Florida Gators
  • Texas A&M Aggies

And here are the eight teams that will participate in the College World Series in 2025:

  • Arkansas Razorbacks
  • LSU Tigers
  • Oregon State Beavers
  • Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
  • UCLA Bruins
  • Arizona Wildcats
  • Louisville Cardinals
  • Murray State Racers

Just another example of how difficult it is to reach the College World Series. And another reason why Tennessee fans, while disappointed, shouldn't be upset about the Vols failing to reach Omaha just a year after winning a national championship.
