Texans WR Jayden Higgins Makes His History With Rookie Contract

The Texans might have drafted Higgins in the second round but rewarded him with a first-round contract.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Higgins and the Texans have agreed to a four-year, $11,700,824 fully guaranteed contract. It’s a historic contract, as Higgins becomes the first second-round pick to have a fully guaranteed contract.

Fully guaranteed contracts are typically reserved for first-round picks. However, the Texans made an exception for the No. 34 pick and signed him to an extraordinary deal.

After playing two seasons for the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, Higgins transferred to Iowa State, where he played for two seasons.

Higgins caught 53 passes for 983 yards and six touchdowns in 2023. The 6-foot-4 and 214-pound receiver improved in 2024 with 87 receptions for 1,183 yards and nine touchdowns.

Texans Wide Receivers For C.J. Stroud

The Texans’ wide receiver corps will look different in 2025.

C.J. Stroud’s top targets in 2024 were Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, and Tank Dell.

Collins remains in Houston, but Diggs signed with the Patriots, and Dell will miss most of 2025 with a knee injury.

Collins is still the clear No. 1. In March, Houston traded for Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk, who will compete for the No. 2 wide receiving position.

John Metchie III, Braxton Berrios, and Iowa State’s Xavier Hutchinson are on the roster.

Speaking of Iowa State, the Texans drafted Higgins’ teammate, Jaylin Noel, in the third round.
