In a clash between former Big 12 rivals, the Texas Longhorns and the Texas Tech Red Raiders faced off in a winner take all Game 3 of the Women's College World Series championship.
After the Longhorns won the series opener on Wednesday 2-1, Texas Tech and superstar pitcher NiJaree Canady answered in Game 2, winning 4-3. While a major announcement was made about Canady earlier in the day, that was about all that went well for the Stanford transfer.
Earlier Friday, it was revealed that Canady signed another seven-figure deal for her senior season in Lubbock. She is by far the most dominant player in the sport, but Friday evening, the Longhorns had her number.
After a run that saw her pitch all five of Texas Tech's first games in the tournament, she lasted just one inning. She ended up allowing five runs on five hits, tossing just 25 pitches on the night. The Longhorns would add a sixth run in the third inning, and then Mia Scott's fourth-inning grand slam to make it 10-0 was the dagger.

Ultimately, Texas went on to win 10-4 as there is no run rule in the World Series, clinching the program's first title in softball in school history.
As for Scott, she had a tremendous WCWS finals, recording five hits in eight at-bats, driving in five runs, blasting two home runs and making a couple of web gem plays at third. Not to mention, she did all of this on a torn ACL.
While Scott shined in her own right, Texas pitcher, Teagan Kavan, won the Most Outstanding Player of the Women's College World Series. She pitched 31.2 innings during the WCWS, allowing a total of zero runs.
After the game, Kavan revealed that she dedicated the victory to her late grandmother who passed away last week.
"I'm so happy for this team," Kavan said. "We did it. First natty. Let's go. My grandma... the last thing she told my brother...one of the last things was to bring home a victory, we did that for her."
A huge win for Texas, who can now light the tower back in Austin.
