Earlier this week Texas Tech Athletics was teasing a big announcement and on Friday morning, the news dropped that Texas Tech would be changing their stadium name from Jones AT&T Stadium to Galaxy Stadium.
Galaxy and Texas Tech agreed to a 15-year, $75 million naming rights deal for the stadium. If you are not familiar with Galaxy, they are basically a tech company that does a little bit of everything.
The beginning of a landmark partnership.

Galaxy’s flagship Helios AI (Artificial Intelligence) & HPC (High-Performance Computing) Data Center campus is located in Dickens County, Texas, about 70 miles east of Lubbock.
The deal will also include the company’s logo appearing at midfield. The company’s sponsorship will also be extended across Red Raider football and men’s and women’s basketball through digital, social and in-game features.
Galaxy also will offer NIL opportunities for Texas Tech’s student-athletes. While it will take some time to get used to the change, this is a major deal for Texas Tech. Keep in mind that this past year, Arizona got a 20-year, $60 million dollar deal to rename their stadium.
Even though it’s not an oil and gas company, which is where I thought they would lean into, money is money. And for Texas Tech, this seemed like a win-win for them when it comes to money, helping student-athletes, and using technology to prepare for the future. Texas Tech opens the season at Galaxy Stadium Sept. 5 vs. Abilene Christian.
