The 2026 Winter Olympics are headed for the final stretch after first beginning on Feb. 4 and a number of medals have already been handed out.
The first medal of the Milan Cortina Games was earned on Saturday and that will continue to be the case until the conclusion of the event seven days from now.
The first gold of the Olympics was awarded to 24-year-old Swiss alpline skier Franjo von Allmen with Italy’s Giovanni Franzoni and Dominik Paris earning silver and bronze, respectively — two countries that have been well-represented on the podium thus far.
With just one week remaining of Winter Olympic competition in Milan, here's a look at the 10 most successful countries to this point:
The United States had to wait until Sunday to finally get on the medal board with a pair of golds in women’s downhill alpine skiing (Breezy Johnson) and men’s team figure skating after American star Ilia Malinin was able to overcome a stumble in the middle of his routine.
And now the U.S. will be looking to stack even more hardware over the next several days before returning stateside.
Snowboarder Chloe Kim, who fell just short of a three-peat in the women's halfpipe event, earned a silver medal on Thursday with boyfriend Myles Garrett in attendance. Something she spoke to "The Today Show" about after going public with their romance.
"I mean it's so fun," Kim said Friday. "He's truly my best friend. He's such an amazing addition to my support system. It's very special, cause I feel like he gets it, he gets what it's like to be in this position, he gets what it's like to be an athlete. He understands the pressure and all of that. So, he's been an amazing person, and, yeah, he's my rock, my best friend, I'm excited."
Garrett himself added another Defensive Player of the Year Award to his trophy case after setting the NFL's single-season sack record (23) in 2025. But Kim still has the leg up with her three Olympic medals and numerous first-place X Games and world championship finishes.
