The NFC East going into this year is going to be more fun than years past. It has the reigning Super Bowl champs, a quarterback prodigy, the most interesting quarterback room in the league, and a messy organization. How will each team fare in the upcoming NFL season?
This should not come as a surprise. The defending champion Philadelphia Eagles should be the favorites to win the East. Their defense, which was incredible last year, will only get better a the young guys like Cooper DeJean continue to grow.
The pieces are all there to repeat as champs. Saquon Barkley isn’t going anywhere, so their offense will always be a problem. Devonte Smith and AJ Brown are still here, and most importantly, Jalen Hurts continues to lead the right way.
Hurts is focused on the task ahead. He understands that the Eagles will have a target on their back all of this year. For a 27-year-old, he has an incredibly mature mindset that will, no doubt, keep the team ready for every game.
Barring injury, there’s no reason to think Philly will finish lower than first. Their winning of the division will also break a long-lived streak of no repeat NFC East champions.
Things were looking a bit scary for the Washington Commanders. Star receiver Terry McLaurin was holding out due to contract issues, and if the team is going to repeat its success from a year ago, they’ll need him. Fortunately, everything was okay, and he got a three-year, $96 million extension.
Jayden Daniels will be looking to pick up right where he left off his historic rookie season. The Commanders made some major moves upgrading their offensive line, so that should help out the young QB a lot.
This season will ride on the shoulders of Daniels. The other 31 teams now have a full season’s worth of tape on him. Can he quickly adjust to the new looks that will be thrown at him? It’s paramount for Washington that he avoid the dreaded sophomore slump.
Last year, the Commanders had no expectations going into the season and performed well. How will they when they are expected to be good?
This will be a fun season for New York Giants fans. It’s weird to say that for a team that is predicted to finish third in the division, but it has been so dire for Giants fans that this will be an upgrade.
New York has real reasons to be optimistic. First off, rookie Jaxson Dart looks like the real deal. Even though it’s just pre-season, the eye test doesn’t lie, and he embodies what a franchise quarterback is on the field.
Secondly, the Giants will have their best quarterback play in years with Russell Wilson. Despite his struggles in recent years, it will be leaps and bounds better than what Daniel Jones and Drew Lock gave them a year ago.
Finally, the addition of Jameis Winston has been an absolute blessing. The vibe has been immaculate, and it’s easily one of the most fun teams to watch on the sideline. It was cool to see all the New York QBs getting along, and it was a nice bonus to see all of them play well in the preseason.
The G-men have a chance to be a frisky eight or nine-win team that could maybe sneak in that final playoff spot. If nothing else, it will be entertaining to watch both the wins and losses.
The Dallas Cowboys’ situation is the exact opposite of the Giants. The vibes are downright awful in the organization. That is usually how it is going to be when the owner refuses to pay your best player.
Yes, Micah Parsons still hasn’t been paid and was seen visibly frustrated in their final preseason gam when he was lying on a table on the sideline. The Cowboys already have a lot of flaws on both sides of the ball. They cannot afford to play a full season without their best player.
The worst part is that even if he did get paid today, he will not be in full game form by the first couple of weeks because he hasn’t practiced. The situation is a mess right now, and by the looks of it, Parsons isn’t getting paid any time soon.
Dallas, as a result, will suffer all season and finish dead last in the East. Maybe this can be a wake-up call to shake up ownership. Again, though, it is the Cowboys. The team that has been relevant for 25+ years now, without making a conference championship game because of their off-the-field shenanigans
The NFC East is going to be one to keep track of all year long. Historically, the division is very top-heavy heavy with two teams being great and the other two teams being awful. The Giants of all teams, however, can change that trend and perhaps make it a division that sees three playoff teams.
Regardless of what happens, it will be more fun than in years past!
